Oh those Italians … I was surrounded! This was Robert Davi’s directing debut and he also was one of the lead actors. There was lots of shopping in the men’s dept on this project. Chazz Palminteri became one of my favorite actors; what a great, classy guy and fun to work with. If you haven’t seen his one-man stage production of his story “A Bronx Tale” you are missing out.

My favorite memory of this film is the four guys in tomato costumes! I looked high and low for tomato costumes because I was determined not to make them. But of course, I did. My assistant Tisha and I stayed up very late a few nights before we shot the scene; taping and sewing big foam panels. I remember us chanting “don’t lay down don’t lay down” … we were so tired that if we succumbed to a moment of rest we’d be done for.
